PLAIN-LANGUAGE SUMMARY — ORIGINAL INTERPRETATION, NOT THE OFFICIAL TEXT

High-risk AI systems and general-purpose AI models that conform to harmonised standards published in the EU's Official Journal are presumed to meet the matching legal requirements, so far as those standards cover them. The Commission must ask European standardisation bodies to develop such standards, including deliverables on documentation and on reducing systems' energy and resource use. Standard-setting should promote innovation, legal certainty and balanced stakeholder participation while drawing on consistent international standards.
