PLAIN-LANGUAGE SUMMARY — ORIGINAL INTERPRETATION, NOT THE OFFICIAL TEXT

High-risk AI systems must be designed so that people can effectively oversee them while in use, with suitable human-machine interface tools. Oversight aims to prevent or reduce risks to health, safety and fundamental rights, and must match the system's autonomy and context. Those assigned to oversee should grasp its limits, guard against over-reliance, interpret output correctly, and be able to override or stop it. For certain biometric identification, two competent people must confirm any decision, with limited exceptions.
