COMPETENT AUTHORITY

BIPT earmarked as lead regulator; not formally appointed

The 2025-2029 Federal Coalition Agreement points to the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT/IBPT) as the intended lead AI Act regulator, with the FPS Economy coordinating implementation. No formal Art. 70 designation has been made and Belgium is not on the Commission's notified list. Federal/regional division of competence remains unresolved.

Member States designate their notifying authority and market-surveillance authority under Article 70; the Commission publishes the consolidated single-point-of-contact list. Designation across the Union remains uneven — we track each state's status rather than presenting a uniform picture that does not exist.
