The Transparency Code of Practice is final — the Article 50 playbook

The Commission-backed code for AI-generated content is published and signable ahead of the August deadline.

ANALYSIS — EDITORIAL, NOT THE LEGAL RECORD

The AI Office published the final Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content on 10 June 2026. It translates the abstract wording of Article 50 into operational expectations weeks before the obligation applies.

For providers the code sets out marking and detection: embedding machine-readable signals in synthetic audio, image, video and text. For deployers it covers deepfake disclosure and the labelling of AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest.

Signing is voluntary but consequential. The code is the endorsed route to demonstrate compliance; non-signatories are not exempt and must show by other means that they meet the same standard. How the AI Office treats those who stay out is still developing.

THE STANDING RULE

Superseded dates are struck through, never deleted. Where a deadline moved, we show both — because a compliance calendar you can't audit is worth nothing.
